Reading Process

Reading Fiction, Poetry, and Drama

Reading Nonfiction

  • Apply information in maps, captions, glossary, graphs, diagrams, etc.

  • Use details for the text to retell main ideas, organize a sequence of events, compare and contrast texts, distinguish between fact and opinion

  • Read and follow 3 and 4 step directions to complete a task

Writing

Writing Process

  • Follow a writing process in prewriting, drafting, editing, revising, publishing

  • Generate a writing draft in accordance with the district writing program

  • Revise and edit for grade level appropriate items with assistance

  • Publish writing with assistance

  • Use grade level appropriate capitalization and punctuation

  • Correctly use verbs, conjunctions, adjectives, and adverbs
